Description

A spring-loaded bolt that shoots home by itself and stays locked. The zinc-plated steel channel body, 132mm long and 50mm wide, bolts, screws or welds to the gate or door. A coil spring drives the 16mm bolt out 100mm into a keeper or a hole in the post, so it cannot rattle open. Pull the rubber-capped handle back and turn it into the 65mm slot to park the bolt open. The price is for one bolt, minimum order 5.

Dimension drawing of the 16mm spring-loaded bolt: 132 x 50mm body, bolt shoots 100mm, 104mm handle, 260mm overall

Why choose this bolt

Locks itself. Let go of the handle and the spring pushes the bolt fully home, so a gate or ramp is never left half-bolted.

Parks open. Turn the handle into the slot in the body and the bolt stays back while you load or swing the gate.

Bolt, screw or weld. Four holes at 98 x 32mm take bolts or coach screws; on steel the body can be welded on.

Heavy 16mm bolt. A thick bolt with a 100mm throw for livestock trailers, horsebox ramps and heavy yard gates that take knocks.

Where it is used

Livestock trailer and horsebox gates and ramps, yard and field gates, pens and hurdles, kennel and run doors, and steel cabinet or bin store doors.

Fitting

Close the gate and hold the bolt level against the closing stile so the bolt lines up with the post. Mark the four holes and fix with bolts or coach screws, or weld the body on steel. Shoot the bolt and mark where it meets the post, then drill a hole a little larger than the bolt or fit a keeper there. Check it shoots fully home and parks in its slot.

Care

A drop of oil on the spring and bolt every few months keeps it snapping home, especially on trailers that see road dirt.
