Application Guide

  1. Surface Preparation: Remove loose paint, rust, grease, and contaminants. Abrade glossy surfaces with 120-grit paper. Clean with white spirit and allow to dry. Porous surfaces may require sealing primer for optimal coverage.
  2. Mixing: Stir thoroughly for 2-3 minutes before use and periodically during application. Do not thin – formulated for optimal viscosity.
  3. Application Method: Apply by brush (synthetic bristle), roller (10mm microfibre), or airless spray (0.015-0.017" tip, 2000-2500 PSI). Maintain wet edge to avoid lap marks.
  4. Coat Application: Apply one generous, even coat. Most surfaces require only one coat. Highly porous or contrasting colours may benefit from a second coat after 4-6 hours.
  5. Drying & Curing: Allow 2 hours before light handling. Avoid heavy use or cleaning for 24 hours. Full chemical resistance develops after 7 days.

Suitable Substrates

✓ Metals: Mild steel, galvanised steel, aluminium (keyed), cast iron, wrought iron
✓ Timber: Softwood, hardwood, MDF, plywood, chipboard (sealed)
✓ Masonry: Concrete, render, cement block, brick, stone (sealed)
✓ Previously Painted: Sound existing paint systems (after keying and cleaning)

Typical Applications

  • Industrial steelwork, racking systems, and structural metalwork
  • Warehouse doors, shutters, and loading bay equipment
  • Agricultural buildings, barns, and machinery housings
  • Commercial shopfronts, railings, and architectural metalwork
  • Workshop benches, tool cabinets, and storage units
  • Exterior timber cladding, fascias, and joinery
  • Concrete floors, walls, and industrial surfaces (non-traffic areas)

Coverage Calculator

Surface Area 15L Coverage Application
50 m² 3 coats possible Small workshop or garage
100 m² 1.5 coats Medium warehouse section
150 m² 1 coat (optimal) Large commercial space

Coverage varies with substrate porosity, texture, and application method. Porous surfaces reduce coverage by 20-30%.

Performance & Compliance

Weather Resistance: Tested to BS 3900 for exterior durability. Withstands 1000+ hours salt spray (ASTM B117) without blistering or corrosion creep.

Adhesion: Exceeds BS EN ISO 2409 cross-cut adhesion test (classification 0-1).

VOC Compliance: Meets EU Directive 2004/42/EC and UK VOC regulations for decorative coatings.

Safety: Conforms to HSE COSHH workplace standards. Safety data sheet available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this really cover in one coat?
Yes, on most sealed, non-porous surfaces. The high-opacity formula is designed for single-coat coverage over light to medium colours. Very porous substrates (bare wood, concrete) or extreme colour changes (white to black) may benefit from a second coat for optimal finish.
Can I use this on galvanised steel without primer?
Yes. The paint adheres directly to weathered galvanised steel after light abrasion and degreasing. For new, shiny galvanised surfaces, we recommend light sanding (180-grit) or a galvanised metal primer for maximum adhesion.
How does this compare to standard gloss paint?
This is a professional-grade coating with significantly higher opacity (better coverage), faster drying, superior weather resistance, and lower VOC content compared to traditional gloss paints. It's formulated for industrial and commercial use rather than domestic decorating.
Can I spray this paint?
Yes. Use an airless sprayer with 0.015-0.017" tip at 2000-2500 PSI. Conventional HVLP spray is also suitable. Strain paint through 100-micron filter before spraying. Do not thin.
Is this suitable for exterior use in coastal areas?
Yes. The paint has been salt-spray tested and contains anti-corrosion additives suitable for coastal and marine environments. Ensure proper surface preparation and consider a second coat for maximum protection in severe exposure conditions.
What's the best way to clean brushes and equipment?
Clean immediately after use with white spirit or brush cleaner. For dried paint, use a proprietary paint remover. Dispose of cleaning materials responsibly in accordance with local regulations.
