Cutting & Installation Guide

  1. Measure & Plan: Measure your area accurately. Add 50-100mm to length for trimming allowance. For flooring, plan seam locations to minimise waste.
  2. Acclimatise Material: Unroll rubber and allow to acclimatise for 24 hours at room temperature (15-20°C) before cutting or installation. This prevents shrinkage or expansion after fitting.
  3. Cutting: For thin sheets (1.5-6mm): use sharp utility knife with straight edge. For thick sheets (8-25mm): use heavy-duty shears, guillotine, or bandsaw. Mark cutting lines with chalk or marker.
  4. Adhesive Selection: For permanent installation, use contact adhesive (e.g., Evo-Stik Impact) or rubber flooring adhesive. For temporary installation, use double-sided tape or leave loose-laid if area is enclosed.
  5. Surface Preparation: Clean substrate thoroughly – remove oil, grease, dust, and loose material. Surface must be dry, smooth, and structurally sound.
  6. Adhesive Application: Apply adhesive to both substrate and rubber backing. Allow to become touch-dry (10-15 minutes). Press firmly into place, working from centre outwards to eliminate air bubbles.
  7. Seam Joining: Butt edges tightly together – do not overlap. For critical applications, seal seams with rubber adhesive or silicone sealant.
  8. Curing: Allow adhesive to cure for 24 hours before heavy use. Avoid foot traffic during cure period.

What thickness do I need for workshop flooring?

Is this suitable for fuel or oil environments?

How do I cut thick rubber (10mm+)?

Can I glue this to concrete?
Yes. Use contact adhesive (Evo-Stik Impact or similar) or specialist rubber flooring adhesive. Clean concrete thoroughly, apply adhesive to both surfaces, allow to become touch-dry, then press firmly into place. For permanent installation, full adhesive coverage is recommended. For temporary installation, use double-sided tape or leave loose-laid.
What's the difference between natural and synthetic rubber?
Natural rubber offers superior tensile strength, tear resistance, and resilience compared to SBR (synthetic rubber). It's better for high-stress applications, vibration isolation, and impact protection. However, natural rubber has poor oil/fuel resistance and UV resistance. Synthetic rubbers (nitrile, EPDM, neoprene) offer better chemical and weather resistance for specific applications.
Can I use this as electrical insulation matting?
This is standard commercial-grade rubber, not electrically rated. For electrical insulation matting, you must use BS EN 61111 certified electrical safety matting with appropriate voltage rating. Contact us for certified electrical insulation matting.
How much does it weigh?

Standard width is 1.4m. Custom widths are available for large orders (minimum 50m+ total) – contact us for quotation. For narrower widths, we can slit standard 1.4m rolls to your required width (minimum order quantities apply).
How do I calculate how much I need?
Measure your area in metres (length x width). Divide width by 1.4m to determine how many strips you need. Multiply by length to get total linear metres. Add 10% for wastage and trimming. Example: 5m x 3m area = 3m ÷ 1.4m = 2.14 strips (round up to 3) × 5m length = 15 linear metres required.
