Description
High-visibility safety yellow combines with the outstanding material performance of UHMWPE to create the definitive dock bumper specification for facilities where workplace safety, compliance, and dock protection performance must all be met simultaneously. The 465 x 280 x 160mm Yellow UHMWPE Dock Bumper features the deepest rubber-equivalent profile in our range at 160mm — absorbing more kinetic energy per impact than any other bumper at this height — while its safety yellow colour provides unmistakable visual identification of dock hazard zones, supporting compliance with UK workplace safety marking requirements. This is the premium specification for safety-conscious operations that refuse to compromise on either protection or visibility.
Why Yellow UHMWPE Sets the Safety Standard for UK Loading Docks
UK workplace safety regulations and guidance from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) require that workplace hazard zones are clearly marked to warn operatives and visitors. Loading dock areas are designated hazard zones where vehicle and pedestrian traffic mix, and dock bumpers mark the critical interface between HGV vehicles and the building structure. The safety yellow colour of this bumper makes dock positions immediately identifiable from across the yard, warns approaching drivers of the dock face, and provides a clear visual indication of the bumper position for dock operatives working in and around the dock area. The 160mm deep UHMWPE profile simultaneously delivers the highest energy absorption of any bumper in this face size range, making this the specification that leads on both safety and performance.
Key Benefits
- Safety Yellow UHMWPE — High-visibility yellow colour provides unmistakable dock zone identification; supports UK workplace safety marking requirements without additional line-marking or signage
- 160mm Deep Profile — The deepest impact absorption profile in our UHMWPE range; handles the highest energy docking impacts from heavy, fully-laden HGV articulated vehicles
- 465 x 280mm Face Area — Wide face provides generous trailer contact zone and even load distribution; 280mm width wider than standard for additional lateral coverage
- UHMWPE Material — Superior impact resistance, self-lubricating surface, and chemical/temperature performance far exceeding rubber alternatives
- Colour-Fast Pigmentation — Safety yellow pigment integrated throughout the UHMWPE material, not surface-painted; colour does not peel, chip, or fade under prolonged UV and weather exposure
- Cold Temperature Performance — Maintains full impact absorption and visibility at sub-zero temperatures; ideal for cold store and refrigerated facility docks
- Safety Compliance Support — Yellow dock bumpers support risk assessment documentation, demonstrating engineering control measures for dock hazard zones

Ideal Applications & Use Cases
- Safety-Critical Distribution Centres — Major logistics operations subject to rigorous health and safety auditing benefit from yellow dock bumpers as an engineering control measure in risk assessments for dock hazard zones
- Facilities with Mixed Pedestrian and Vehicle Traffic — Docks where operatives work alongside manoeuvring HGVs are higher-risk environments where safety yellow identification of dock positions reduces the risk of operative injury from vehicle contact
- Cold Store & Frozen Distribution Docks — Yellow UHMWPE performs at sub-zero temperatures where rubber becomes brittle; the high-visibility colour remains vibrant even in low-light cold store dock environments
- Food-Grade Facility Docks — UHMWPE is food-safe and withstands all food-grade cleaning chemicals; the yellow colour is compatible with food facility colour-coding schemes used in HACCP-compliant operations
- High-Energy Docking Environments — The 160mm depth profile is the premier choice for docks where particularly heavy or fast-moving HGVs generate high impact energy that standard-depth bumpers cannot fully absorb
- ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 Certified Operations — Environmental and health and safety certified organisations can document yellow dock bumpers as part of their engineering control evidence for dock hazard zones
Installation Guide
Due to the 160mm projection depth of this bumper, ensure adequate clearance in your dock leveller and dock shelter seal design before installation. The 160mm projection positions the trailer further from the dock face than standard bumpers, which may affect dock leveller ramp angle and shelter seal compression. Confirm compatibility with your existing dock equipment before installing. Position the bumper at the correct height for your fleet — with the centre at approximately 1,050–1,150mm from dock floor level for standard articulated operations. Use the pre-drilled fixing plate as a drilling template. Drill M20 anchor holes to the required depth. Install anchor bolts and torque to specification. Install bumpers in pairs, symmetrically positioned either side of the dock door. The yellow colour enhances visibility of the bumper position, aiding correct trailer alignment during approach.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the yellow colour fade over time? No. The safety yellow pigment is integrated throughout the UHMWPE material during manufacturing, not applied as a surface coating. It cannot peel, chip, or fade under UV exposure, weather, or abrasion in the way that painted finishes do. The colour remains vibrant throughout the full service life of the bumper.
Why is a 160mm depth important? The 160mm depth provides 60% more energy absorption than a standard 100mm bumper and over twice the absorption of a 66mm bumper. This makes it the correct specification for the heaviest or fastest-moving HGV operations where standard-depth bumpers would fully compress on impact, allowing the trailer to contact the dock face structure.
Are these bumpers approved for food contact environments? UHMWPE is a food-safe material approved for contact with food products. It is non-toxic, does not absorb liquids, and is resistant to all food-grade cleaning chemicals. Confirm specific food contact approvals with our technical team if required for your regulatory environment.
