Description
Commercial Grade SBR Rubber Sheet
Industrial Grade Material
Heavy-duty styrene-butadiene rubber for industrial sealing, gaskets, flooring, and general-purpose applications. Available in 1.5mm to 25mm thickness.
This is the black, general-purpose rubber sheet that maintenance fitters, fabricators and workshop managers cut up for everyday jobs: gaskets and pipe seals, workbench and floor matting, machine pads and surface protection. You choose the thickness, enter the metres you need as the quantity, and cut it to shape on site with standard tools. If you are not sure which thickness suits your job, use the guide below or call 01744 520110.
Which Thickness Do You Need?
Start with the job, then pick the band. Thin sheet bends around curves and suits tight flanges. Thick sheet takes more impact and spreads load better, but it is heavier and harder to cut. The price for your exact size shows when you select it in the size selector.
| Thickness | Typical jobs |
|---|---|
| 1.5mm to 3mm | Flange gaskets, pipe seals, hatch seals, bench lining |
|
4mm to 6mm 5mm is the most ordered thickness on this listing |
Machinery gaskets, pump and valve sealing, workbench matting, workshop flooring |
| 7mm to 10mm | Anti-vibration mats, equipment protection pads, workshop flooring |
| 12mm to 15mm | Loading bay protection, equipment protection pads, surface protection |
| 20mm to 25mm | Heavy machine pads, dock bumpers and fenders |
How It's Sold and How Much to Order
- Sold per linear metre: select your size, then enter the metres you need as your quantity, in whole metres.
- Width: 1.4m on every thickness. 3mm also comes 1m, 1.2m and 2m wide.
- Coverage: each metre at 1.4m wide covers 1.4m². Allow extra for trimming and for cutting around bolt holes or machine feet.
- Large areas and repeat orders: call 01744 520110 or email sales@industrialsuppliesco.co.uk for a project quote.
| Area to cover | Metres at 1.4m wide | Metres at 2m wide (3mm only) |
|---|---|---|
| 5m² | 4 | 3 |
| 10m² | 8 | 5 |
| 20m² | 15 | 10 |
| 50m² | 36 | 25 |
| 100m² | 72 | 50 |
Figures are rounded up to whole metres, before any allowance for trimming.
Sizes and approximate weights
Thicker sheet gets heavy quickly, so plan how you will lift it. Weights are worked out at 1.5 g/cm³, a typical density for this class of rubber. The density of this line is not published, so treat them as a handling guide only.
| Size | Area per metre | Approx. weight per metre |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5mm x 1.4m | 1.4m² | 3.2kg |
| 3mm x 1m | 1m² | 4.5kg |
| 3mm x 1.2m | 1.2m² | 5.4kg |
| 3mm x 1.4m | 1.4m² | 6.3kg |
| 3mm x 2m | 2m² | 9kg |
| 4mm x 1.4m | 1.4m² | 8.4kg |
| 5mm x 1.4m | 1.4m² | 10.5kg |
| 6mm x 1.4m | 1.4m² | 12.6kg |
| 7mm x 1.4m | 1.4m² | 14.7kg |
| 8mm x 1.4m | 1.4m² | 16.8kg |
| 10mm x 1.4m | 1.4m² | 21kg |
| 12mm x 1.4m | 1.4m² | 25kg |
| 15mm x 1.4m | 1.4m² | 32kg |
| 20mm x 1.4m | 1.4m² | 42kg |
| 25mm x 1.4m | 1.4m² | 53kg |
Product Overview
SBR (Styrene-Butadiene Rubber) sheet material offering excellent abrasion resistance, chemical tolerance, and cost-effective performance for general industrial applications. Suitable for sealing, gasket fabrication, flooring, and vibration damping across manufacturing, marine, and construction sectors.
Key Properties
- Exceptional abrasion resistance – superior wear characteristics vs natural rubber
- Chemical & oil resistant – tolerates solvents, hydraulic fluids, acids, and industrial chemicals
- Temperature stable – performs reliably from -20°C to +80°C
- Vibration damping – reduces machinery vibration and noise transmission
- Cost-effective – premium performance at competitive pricing
- Easy fabrication – cuts, punches, and bonds with standard tools
Is SBR the Right Rubber for Your Job?
SBR is a general-purpose compound, and a specialist rubber will outlast it on some jobs. Check this list before you order. If you tell us the fluid, temperature and pressure involved, we will help you choose.
| What the job involves | Best choice |
|---|---|
| General sealing, matting, pads and protection, mainly indoors | This SBR sheet |
| Constant contact with petrol, diesel, mineral oil or hydraulic fluid | Nitrile rubber sheet |
| Outdoors, in sun and weather for the long term | EPDM rubber sheet |
| A job that needs a flame-retardant sheet | Neoprene rubber sheet |
| Extra strength from a cloth layer for hot water, air and hydraulic services | Reinforced SBR rubber sheet |

Cutting and Fitting
- Let it relax first. Unroll the sheet and leave it flat at room temperature for 24 hours, so it stops trying to curl while you cut it.
- Thin sheet. Use a sharp knife and a steel straight edge, with several light passes rather than one heavy cut.
- Sheet of 10mm and over. Use heavy-duty shears, a guillotine or a bandsaw for a clean, square edge.
- Gaskets. Mark out from the old gasket or the flange, and cut the bolt holes cleanly. Tighten the bolts evenly in a cross pattern so the rubber compresses evenly.
- Bonding. Clean, dry and degrease both surfaces, then use a contact adhesive and follow its instructions.
- Machine pads. Send us the machine weight and foot size before ordering for heavy plant, because load figures are not published for this line.
- Storage. Keep spare sheet flat or loosely rolled, somewhere cool and dry, and out of direct sunlight.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use this sheet around oil or fuel?
For constant contact with petrol, diesel, mineral oil or hydraulic fluid, choose our nitrile rubber sheet, which is made for that job. If you are unsure about a particular fluid, tell us what it is before you order and we will check it with you.
Can this sheet be used outdoors?
SBR is best suited to indoor and covered use. For a job that sits in sun and weather for the long term, EPDM rubber sheet is the better choice.
Do you sell this in 2mm?
Not in this SBR listing, where the selector goes from 1.5mm to 3mm. Our industrial grade natural rubber sheet comes in 2mm, or you can call us on 01744 520110 to discuss your job.
Is it certified for drinking water, food contact or fire ratings?
No certificates for these are published for this line. If your job has a specified requirement, send it to sales@industrialsuppliesco.co.uk or call 01744 520110 before ordering so we can check it first.
How many metres do I need?
Divide your area in m² by the sheet width, then round up to the next whole metre. A 10m² area at 1.4m wide needs 8 metres. Add a little extra for trimming and for cutting around fixings.
