1.5mm: Thin gaskets, light sealing, fuel tank lining
3mm: General purpose gaskets, moderate sealing applications

For a gasket, start with what you are sealing. Thin sheet needs less bolt load and suits light covers. Thicker sheet takes up more unevenness on older or rough flange faces, but it needs more clamping force. 1.5mm is the most ordered thickness on this listing. Weights are worked out at 1.45 g/cm³, a typical density for commercial nitrile sheet. The density of this line is not published, so treat them as a handling guide only. To work out metres, divide your area in m² by 1.4 and round up: 5m² needs 4 metres, 10m² needs 8 and 20m² needs 15.

Nitrile is the right rubber for many oil jobs, but not all of them. Check these points first. If one applies, call us before you order.
- Outdoor use. Sun and ozone crack nitrile over time. For a job that stays outdoors, use our EPDM rubber sheet, or our neoprene rubber sheet where oil and weather both apply.
- Solvents and special fuels. Tell us if your fluid is a high-aromatic fuel, toluene, benzene, a biodiesel or a bio-lubricant.
- Hot oil. Tell us the working temperature if the oil runs hot for long periods.
- Pressure. No pressure rating is published for this line. A gasket's limit also depends on the flange, bolt load and temperature, so follow the equipment maker's specification.
- Regulated systems. No aviation, gas, drinking water or food-contact certificates are published for this line. Where a system needs a certified part, use one.

Easy Fabrication & Installation
Nitrile rubber is simple to work with using standard workshop tools:

Can be die-cut for custom gaskets or used as sheet material for larger sealing applications.
Getting a good seal: mark out from the old gasket or the flange, and cut the bolt holes cleanly. Clean both faces, then tighten the bolts evenly in a cross pattern so the rubber compresses evenly. Keep spare sheet flat or loosely rolled, somewhere cool and dark, away from electric motors, which give off ozone.

Will it handle diesel, petrol and hydraulic oil?
Those are the jobs nitrile is chosen for. If your fluid is a biodiesel, a bio-lubricant, a high-aromatic fuel or a solvent, tell us what it is before you order and we will check it with you.
Which thickness should I use for a flange gasket?
Follow the equipment maker's specification if there is one. 3mm is a common starting point for smooth, machined flanges. Consider thicker sheet for older or rough faces, and 1.5mm for light covers.
Can I use it outdoors?
It is not the best choice for long-term outdoor use, because sun and ozone crack the surface over time. Use our EPDM rubber sheet outdoors, unless oil is also involved, in which case call us.
Is it certified for food contact, drinking water, gas or aviation?
